Trust is the new reach: Why Yaleo advertises where Switzerland trusts its media

The Digital News Report 2026 confirms that people in Switzerland trust established media brands far more than many international platforms or anonymous online sources. For advertisers, this means that credible brand communication depends on high-quality, trusted media environments. Yaleo brings together virtually all bookable private Swiss news brands in one network – across German-speaking Switzerland, French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino.

The Digital News Report 2026 shows which Swiss media brands audiences trust – and virtually all of the bookable ones can be found in the Yaleo network.

Fake news, AI-generated content, news creators on TikTok: the digital media world is becoming louder and harder to navigate. For advertisers, this makes the question of which environment allows a brand message to be perceived as credible increasingly urgent. The new Digital News Report 2026 by the Reuters Institute at the University of Oxford provides a clear answer. The Swiss country report was written by Linards Udris and Mark Eisenegger from the Research Center for the Public Sphere and Society (fög) at the University of Zurich.

‍‍

Switzerland trusts its media – more than the rest of the world

42 percent of people in Switzerland trust most news most of the time. That is 4 percentage points less than in the previous year, but still significantly higher than the international average of 37 percent. In German-speaking Switzerland, the figure is 45 percent; in French-speaking Switzerland, 37 percent.

What is particularly interesting is where this trust lies: according to the study, it is with established media brands. After the public-service broadcasters come subscription newspapers, while international portals such as MSN or Yahoo! News perform significantly worse. Although general trust has declined slightly, many individual brands were even able to increase their trust levels in 2026.

‍

Online is the most important source of news

At the same time, usage continues to shift further into digital channels:

  • Online: 80% use online news per week
  • TV: 49%
  • Social media: 42%
  • Print: only 27% (in 2016, it was still 63%)

‍

And 19% already consume news via news creators. Anyone advertising in the digital space must therefore consciously decide next to which content their own brand appears.

‍

Switzerland’s “trusted brands” – almost all with Yaleo

For both major language regions, the report shows how many respondents who know a brand also trust that brand. The result is clear: every private Swiss news brand named in the study is part of the Yaleo network. The only exceptions are the ad-free online offerings of SRF and RTS, as well as international portals such as MSN and Yahoo! News.

‍

German-speaking Switzerland – trust in the brand:

  • NZZ: 71% ✔ Yaleo
  • Tages-Anzeiger: 69% ✔ Yaleo
  • SonntagsZeitung: 65% ✔ Yaleo
  • Aargauer Zeitung: 64% ✔ Yaleo
  • 20 Minuten: 60% ✔ Yaleo
  • Blue News: 54% ✔ Yaleo
  • Watson: 54% ✔ Yaleo
  • nau.ch: 50% ✔ Yaleo
  • Blick: 49% ✔ Yaleo
  • GMX: 42% ✔ Yaleo

‍

Regional newspapers: 72% – in the Yaleo network, including Berner Zeitung, Der Bund, Basler Zeitung, Luzerner Zeitung, St. Galler Tagblatt and Solothurner Zeitung ✔ Yaleo
Private radio news: 67% – in the Yaleo network, including Radio 24, Radio Pilatus, Radio FM1 and Energy ✔ Yaleo

‍

French-speaking Switzerland – trust in the brand:

  • 24 heures: 66% ✔ Yaleo
  • Le Temps: 65% ✔ Yaleo
  • Tribune de Genève: 60% ✔ Yaleo
  • Le Matin: 59% ✔ Yaleo
  • 20 minutes: 57% ✔ Yaleo
  • Le Nouvelliste: 56% ✔ Yaleo
  • Arcinfo: 52% ✔ Yaleo
  • Blick: 48% ✔ Yaleo
  • Blue News: 47% ✔ Yaleo

‍

Regional newspapers: 61% – in the Yaleo network, including La Liberté, La Côte and Le Régional ✔ Yaleo

‍

By comparison: the international portals MSN (French-speaking Switzerland: 32%) and Yahoo! News (31%) achieve only around half these levels. SRF (76%) and RTS (72%) are at the top – however, the public-service offerings are ad-free online and therefore not bookable for campaigns. This means: anyone who wants to advertise digitally in Switzerland in the environment of the most trusted media brands will find them with Yaleo in a single booking – from NZZ and Tages-Anzeiger to 20 Minuten and Watson, all the way to 24 heures and Le Temps in French-speaking Switzerland.

‍

Why this matters for your campaign

Trust is not a nice-to-have; it is a factor that drives impact. Native ads are displayed in an editorial environment – meaning they partly benefit from the credibility of the site on which they appear. A brand message next to a serious newspaper article is perceived differently than one placed between clickbait on an anonymous website.

With Yaleo, you benefit from exactly that:

Premium environment instead of an open-web lottery: Your native ads run on Swiss premium websites and apps from all major media houses.
Absolute brand safety: All publishers are Ad-Trust certified.
All language regions: From German-speaking Switzerland to French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino – targetable by language, region or topic.
You only pay for what works: Billing is based on clicks (CPC).
Easy self-service booking: In the Yaleo Console, you can create your campaign in just a few minutes – with AI support.

‍

Conclusion

The Digital Report 2026 confirms: at a time when many people are no longer sure what is real online, Swiss audiences rely on well-known, established media brands. These are exactly the brands at the heart of the Yaleo network. Anyone who advertises with Yaleo advertises where Switzerland trusts its media – and turns trust into reach for their own brand.
